So let's raise a virtual concern for the millions of unauthorized workers that are now considered living illegally in the United States, individuals that are not even permitted to drive a car to go to work, because simply they can not get a driver’s license, making their plead more humane.
Often at FRONTERAdm, we think about the issues concerning immigration reform, currently with the idea to continue working in the development of a documentary project still in an embryonic form. And considering that the issue of immigration reform will be an unresolved pivotal issue for many years to come, due to the present socio-political climate, we remain doubtful and uncertain. The issue of immigration has become to this country, what the south was to civil rights, extremist trying to keep this country like it was two hundred years ago. The United States of North America has already changed, is changing and will continue to change. The right wing nuts that advocated to transfer more than twelve million people back to Mexico, do not understand the social, economic issues, and are completely out touch and ignorant about the history of this world.
This issue goes back to the intervention of the United States during the
Mexican Revolution when in April 1914, using a slim pretext President Woodrow Wilson sent troops into Mexico, to crush the first social, revolution of the peasants, that would have turn Mexico around into an economic independent and prosperous nation embracing industrialization, history would be different for all Mexicans. This country would have today another neighbor as prosperous as Canada.
Now, in this country we are trying to create too many barriers around our neighbors in the south, the wall along the Mexican border, "it's the northern border of Latin America." So let’s build another wall along the Canadian border to make the United States real secure from the threat of terrorism... to infuriate the Canadians.
Remember, the late U.S. President, John F. Kennedy given a historic speech in 1963, “All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words ‘Ich bin ein Berliner’.” Again later, remember when Ronald Reagan stood in front of the Berlin Wall and challenged... “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall... “
Opposite to that famous challenge, from the United States. Now has turned this society, akin to the wall in Berlin, as Reagan described the Russians, “an evil empire...” Today, building The Great Wall of Mexico, damaging the environment and local communities, to restrain massive movement of people as always has been looking for some form of economic opportunity. When contradictorily, we should be instead in the construction of bridges of good relationships with Mexico. The territory that United States at the end of t
he (1846-1848) war took from Mexico, is a unique region with its own diverse history and common culture, the borderlands refers to the area on both sides of the present boundary between the two countries, were the same land and will remain the same, people crossing along the border, including the present-day states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
Some so called “patriots,” are incredibly claiming a call to arms and to have another civil war, over the immigration issue, but of course that is not going to happen, and this country does not want to have a “cold war” with all Latin American countries. Moderately, somebody should come with the simple idea of moving the border south as far as including Panama, perhaps 'mucho más inteligente' to eliminate the whole stupid concept of borders in a modern world. After all borders were only created by men, in order to protect their old economic systems, resolve feudal wars and differences. Modern societies, and present-day men and women
are living in an inter-dependent global economic, and do not need borders neither steel-concrete walls. We have to create a new order... Latino voters in the U.S. are aware and growing in alarming numbers and now we could tip congressional and presidential races… 'Mr. Obama, “tear down that wall”… along the frontier with Mexico, the rest will be history and prosperity.’
